Best Flex Community Bloggers of 2011

Posted on Dec 15, 2011

Admittedly, this has been a rollercoaster year for Flex. However, as has been very evident this week, Flex has a very strong community filled with individuals who share their time and effort to help other developers such as themselves. I want to recognize some of these today by choosing my personal top bloggers of the year from the Flex community. I know there are many of you who contributed and I wish I could thank all of you individually, but these nine individuals I think deserve some special recognition for their work this year. Here's to a bright, and community-led, 2012.

To be clear, I am including only community bloggers, not evangelists or employees of Adobe. Second, none of these bloggers blog exclusively on Flex but they did blog about Flex or Flex related topics such as Flash Builder, Flash Catalyst and AIR over the course of the year. Lastly, yes, I do hope to do another one of these posts focused on Flash hopefully next week.

Dan Florio a.k.a. Polygeek - Throughout 2011, Dan has been one of the most consistent bloggers on Flex topics producing countless tutorials, samples and tips for both beginners and advanced developers.

Twitter: @polygeek

Examples:

Chris Griffith- Chris always seemed to have some great tips and tutorials on topics such as Flex mobile development to working with Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder. What makes his blog especially worthwhile is that he always seems to cover important topics that no one else is writing about.

Twitter: @chrisgriffith

Examples:

Brent Arnold - Brent excelled this year at creating the most complete (and completely free) series of video tutorials on Flex 4.5, particilarly Flex mobile development and Flash Builder. His YouTube videos could take you from beginner to advanced, covering a wide breadth of topic areas.

Twitter: @iBrent

Examples

Jonathan Campos - Jonathan's work with Flex and AIR for mobile became well-known in large part because of his highly popular Netflix Queue Manager application. This helped make his blog a regular resource for information on developing and deploying mobile applications with Flex that work across multiple platforms.

Twitter: @jonbcampos

Examples:

Todd Anderson - Todd seems to have a particular talent for solving complex problems while explaining the solution with both clarity and detail. He also tends to take a very unique perspective that I find insightful and educational.

Twitter: @bustardcelly

Examples:

Jeffry Houser - Jeffry is well known as the creator of the Flextras series of commercial Flex components but the Flextras blog (as well as his personal blog) is also a wealth of useful tutorials. Jeffry always seems to go above and beyond simply sharing as a marketing tool with his posts as well as his weekly live Connect tutorials every Friday and his work on the Flex Show.

Twitter: @reboog711

Examples:

Paul Robertson - Admittedly, Paul has been quiet on his blog for some months recently, but earlier this year his site was one of the most useful resources for Flex 4.5 information, posting a long series of Flex and Flash Builder tips and tutorials. Here's hoping he continues to do so again.

Twitter: @probertson

Examples:

Nahuel Foronda - Nahuel is well known as the creator of the Mate framework for Flex. He and his company, ASFusion, also created the widely acclaimed Conqu task management application for tablets. Nahuel has also been quiet in the latter half of this year, but his posts from the first half of the year, particularly his five-part series on ItemRenderers, is still deserving of recognition.

Examples:

Stephen Downs a.k.a. Tink - if you are in need of free and open-source Flex 4+ components and layouts, then Tink's blog is a resource you will want to bookmark. Tink not only solves the problems for us but happily shares the solutions with us.

Paul Robertson Thanks for the shout-out Brian.

I've definitely neglected my blog. I had some nasty issues that kept me from being able to access the admin portion of the site for a few months, so that was a big part of it. Not to mention that there weren't as many Flex features released in the later half of the year to write about =)

I definitely plan to get back into things -- so thanks for the "call to action" to encourage me to get busy again.

Paul

polyGeek and FYI, it's "polyGeek". Not "Polygeek". I'm an instance of a polyGeek. Not the class itself. :-)

Nahuel Thanks Brian,
Now that I'm one of the 2011 bloggers I will need to keep up. I'm like Paul, I'm not blogging too much recently, hope to go back on track.

BTW, my twitter is nahuel_en, and not nahuel_es unless that you want to learn spanish :)
