Viewing by month: October 2007

Only one release and one update this week, but a long list of announcements and tutorials. Back on U.S. soil this week. My (belated) Dolphins headed the opposite direction across the pond to play a worthless game in London. The only enjoyment I get out of this season is the weekly quotes from various commentators at the Miami Herald. This week's comes from Greg Cote:

Promoting the NFL in 2007 by showcasing the Dolphins makes about as much sense as promoting the great history and culture of England with a narrative by Benny Hill.

How hilarious and pathetic but true! Anyway, back to the topic at hand which I believe was ColdFusion and open-source...

Update: This article has been posted to my site at http://www.remotesynthesis.com/post.cfm/cairngorm-crystallized

I recently published an article in the most recent, Flex-focused Fusion Authority Quarterly Update (Volume 2 Issue 2) titled "Cairngorm Crystallized: Examining the Cairngorm Microarchitecture from a Workflow Perspective" along with my coworker and friend, Michael Corbridge. I found that other Cairngorm tutorials often got overly focused on the why rather than the how. Personally, I have found that the why only becomes clear with the doing. Therefore, the focus of this article is on covering how to use Cairngorm to develop your project rather than on explaining the patterns it implements. Hopefully, this will be useful for anyone interested in beginning with the framework. If you have read the article, feel free to post any comments or questions here.

Two new projects and four updates this week. This week the open source update is coming to you from Waterford, Ireland, where, despite the endless rain I have managed to enjoy a Guinness, a Smithwick's and a superb dinner. In case you are wondering, the Guinness and Smithwick's taste the same here as across the pond, but you can't beat the atmosphere.

A Flex Camp in Boston?

Yes, indeed! I can't reveal too much yet as I am currently finalizing the venue while working on securing speakers and developing the agenda and web site. However, you can save the date: December 7 from 8 AM to 5 PM. More details will be coming out very soon!

If you are interested in speaking or volunteering to help, feel free to contact me.

Four new projects and six updates this week. This is the Ray Camden edition of the ColdFusion Open-Source Update since he released three updates this week alone. All I can say is, "'Cause you can't, you won't and you don't stop. Ray C come and rock the sure shot!"

On a completely different note, I am starting a total revamp of the ColdFusion Open-Source List. You can view my current progress by going here. It uses a bunch of the new Ajax UI stuff in ColdFusion 8 including CFGRID, CFWINDOW, CFAJAXPROXY and EncodeJSON(). I am looking for opinions on how I can continue to make this more useful. One idea I have is to more directly tie this weekly update in with the actual list. Anyway, would love to hear from my readers.
