Adam Lehman Speaking to Boston CFUG about Builder
Boston is lucky enough to have Adam Lehman, ColdFusion's Product Manager at Adobe, to come to speak at the Boston CFUG about the impending ColdFusion Builder release (no, we don't know any dates yet, but the evidence indicates that it's soon). Now, I'm sure that the fact that this coming weekend is PAX East is a mere lucky coincidence in scheduling for Adam. However, if you are in or around the Boston area, this will be a great opportunity to get all the details about ColdFusion Builder straight from Adam and learn what to expect when it is finally released. If that's not enough, there will be food and prizes. The meeting is this Thursday (3/25) evening at 6pm at the new Adobe offices in Waltham. If you would like to RSVP, go to http://www.eventbrite.com/event/598426911, so register today!
Centaur, Bolt and Gumbo at the Boston CFUG
If you are in the Boston area and you missed last night's Boston CFUG meeting, I hate to tell you that you really missed out. We were lucky not only to have newly minted ColdFusion Product Manager, Adam Lehman, but also Flex Builder Product Manager, Tim Buntel, Director of Engineering for ColdFusion, Hemant Khandelwal, lead engineer on Bolt, Ram Kulkarni, and ColdFusion Product Marketing Manager, Allison Huselid.
Gert Franz Coming to Boston
This coming Monday Gert Franz, CEO of Railo, will be presenting Railo to the Boston CFUG (for meeting details go here). As many of you already know, Railo announced that they were partnering with JBoss and going completely open-source (LGPL2). You can see the full announcement on Sacha’s Weblog. As part of this arrangement, Railo and the JBoss community will be working on integrating other JBoss services such as JBoss Cache, Hibernate and JBoss Messaging. Gert and Railo are also working with Adobe, for instance as part of the CMFL Advisory Committee and you can see Ben Forta's thoughts on the Railo announcment on his blog as well as Adam Lehman's take on his blog.
I think this is an exciting development for the ColdFusion community and could potentially help us expand the community by drawing Java developers to CFML for rapid web-based user-interfaces. It also gives CFML developers another open-source option with a less restrictive license, making it more palatable with larger organizations and allow it to be included in your distributions without changing your own license (or having to pay license fees).
The point is, if you live in or are visiting the Boston area on Monday, you should RSVP now!
Luis Majano on ColdBox Presentation Recording
Tonight Luis Majano presented to the Boston CFUG on the ColdBox framework. You can view the recording here. While I have not tried ColdBox yet, I was really impressed by the breadth of functionality the framework contains. Luis and the ColdBox team seem to have a great attention to detail that reflects very highly on every aspect of the framework shown. A lot of care seems to have been taken in the appearance/presentation of the framework as well as very detailed documentation, which is very much unmatched in any of the other Coldfusion open source projects (frameworks or otherwise). Thanks to Luis for taking the time to present.
On another note, for those of you in the Boston area, check out the CFUG's upcoming events including Gert Franz in Boston talking about Railo next month.
